Patent Law Counsel
A partner in the law firm of Lahive & Cockfield LLP, based in Boston, MA, Ms. Hanley presently serves as patent law counsel to the Avicena Group. In this role, she advises the company on all matters related to patent applications and strategy.
Ms. Hanley has extensive expertise in all areas of chemistry and biotechnology patent law, including patent prosecution, patentability and validity opinions, and licensing. With this background, she has undertaken numerous intellectual property due diligence evaluations. Ms. Hanley's specific areas of specialty include small molecule and organic chemistry, drug delivery, and pharmaceutical development.
Prior to joining Lahive & Cockfield, Ms. Hanley served as an examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) in the fields of biotechnology and chemistry. While at the PTO, she received specialized biotechnology training at the National Institutes of Health.
An active participant in the legal community, Ms. Hanley is a member of the Boston Patent Law Association, the Licensing Executives Society, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, and the Massachusetts and American Bar Associations.
Ms. Hanley received a B.A. degree in chemistry from the College of the Holy Cross and completed full course work and competency exam in chemical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. She received her Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University Law School and is registered to practice before the U.S. PTO.
